The sameAs property is one of the most important properties for entities. It contains a list of web addresses of other pages that describe the same person, company or brand. By listing them, you tell search engines that your website and, for example, your LinkedIn page are about one and the same entity.
What to put in sameAs
- Official social profiles that you control, such as LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram or YouTube.
- A Wikidata entry, if one exists for the entity.
- Your Knowledge Graph address, when you have one, as explained in schema.org without a kgmid.
- Trusted profiles on industry directories, authors pages or marketplaces where the entity is listed.
- For a book, the pages where it is sold or catalogued.
Example
"sameAs": [
"https://www.linkedin.com/company/example-studio",
"https://www.facebook.com/examplestudio",
"https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q00000000"
]
Rules that keep it trustworthy
- List only pages that really are about the same entity, not pages that merely mention it.
- Use the full address, starting with https, and check that it still works.
- Make sure each profile uses the same name and description as your site.
- Do not list the profile of a different person or company with a similar name.
- Link back: a profile that points to your website strengthens the connection in both directions.
Where to use it
sameAs is available on most types, and it matters most on the Organization and Person schemas placed on your entity home. The free generators on this site have an add links option that fills it for you. If you are not sure which page is your entity home, read what is a Google entity home.
